Brighton Chimney Sweeps – Prices & Discounts

We charge £70 for a single fireplace, £65 each for multiple fireplaces in a property. You can book a sweep for up to two fireplaces online. If you have more than two fireplaces that require sweeping, please call us to arrange an appointment.

If you are a returning customer, the price is £65 for a single fireplace (a £5 discount off the new customer price). You will need a discount code to redeem the discount if you are booking online. If you don’t already know the discount code, please drop us a text or an email with your name and the first line of your address and we will respond with the code.

Brighton Chimney Sweeps – Appointments Include

• Visual inspection of the chimney stack, pot and any chimney cowls from street level, if visible
• Full sweep of the fireplace, flue & stack using appropriately sized brushes and rods
• Smoke ‘draw’ test to check smoke is being pulled up the flue properly
• Clean and tidy the area around the fireplace, removing all soot and debris from the property
• Certificate confirming the sweep has been completed with feedback and comments
• Loyalty discounts for returning customers

Brighton Chimney Sweeps – Cancellation Policy

• If you cancel your appointment with more than 24 hours notice of the appointment date, we will make no charge as we have time to fill your appointment slot. If you have booked online and therefore you have already paid, we will refund you the full amount minus the card processing fee. We use ‘Stripe’ to take payments by credit or debit card and as with all payment processing companies, they charge a processing fee which is a percentage of the amount paid.
  For example Stripe charges £1.18 to process a payment of £65. They debit your card with £65 and transfer £63.82 to us. If you want the Stripe processing fee to be refunded, you will need to contact Stripe directly.
• If you cancel your appointment within 24 hours of the appointment date, we reserve the right to make no refund as we will not have enough time to fill your appointment slot and would therefore lose income through no fault of our own.
• If we attend an appointment and we are unable to sweep your chimney through no fault of our own, e.g. there is no one present to let us into the property, the flue is not accessible (it’s bricked up or there is an appliance fixed in place that prevents access to the flue), the chimney stack has been removed etc, we reserve the right to charge the full fee as we have attended the appointment as arranged and we have no time to fill your appointment slot.

Brighton Chimney Sweeps – When & Why You Should Sweep

Whether you are burning wood or coal on an open fire or a stove, you should have your chimney swept by a professional chimney sweep at least once a year. Soot and creosote that result from burning different fuels and debris from the brickwork inside your chimney quickly build up and can cause chimney fires and blockages.

Pre 1965, flues were usually “parged” (rendered) on the inside with lime mortar as the chimney was built. This lime mortar corrodes and deteriorates over time due to acids and tars produced during combustion and rain entering the flue through the chimney pot. The mortar deteriorates into dust and sand which falls down the flue and collects on shelves as the flue bends. This exposes the brick face and the lines of mortar between the bricks, both of which can also deteriorate over time again due to acids, tars and rain.
Tiny amounts of moisture inside the flue, whether from burning fuel that has a high moisture content or rain entering through the chimney pot, can freeze and expand in between bricks and cracks in brickwork. This can break off small chunks of brick which fall down the flue. If enough mortar between bricks is worn away, whole bricks themselves can become loose and fall. Small cracks in brickwork and broken or missing bricks can results in leaks in the flue whereby smoke and other emissions like carbon monoxide can move from one flue to another flue (passing through cracks or gaps in the ‘feathers’ (the thin, vertical walls of bricks that separate different flues that run alongside each other inside the chimney) or even into the building itself, directly into rooms, or floor and ceilings spaces or into the loft area.

If you haven’t used your fire in some time you MUST have it swept before you do. Most people use their fireplaces and stoves only during the colder months of the year. If it is blocked or partially blocked, smoke and other emissions (including deadly fumes like carbon monoxide) may not be able to escape properly up the chimney and they could come back into the room. PLEASE NOTE: We do not provide a birds nest removal service. If we find a nest and we can dislodge it with brushes whilst sweeping, we will. But nest removal, whether from birds, bees, squirrels, mice, rats etc, should be undertaken by a professional pest control company.

Brighton Chimney Sweeps – Fuel & Appliance Performance

There are a number of different solid fuels available for burning on open fires and stoves including all sorts of wood, ‘ordinary house coal’ and ‘smokeless or eco coal’. Some stoves are designed to be used with specific fuels and you should follow the stove manufacturers instructions.

Ordinary house coal produces the most amount of heat followed by hard woods. Smokeless coal produces the least amount of heat. Wood is often preferred for the experience, it produces more flames and a nicer aroma than coal. Wood is considered to be carbon neutral – burning puts back into the atmosphere what was taken out during growth, whereas burning coal puts a lot of carbon into the atmosphere.
